Small Successes.

FaithButton

1.) I want to dedicate the first success to my mother-in-law who made my son, Henry's lion outfit for a party (see previous post). Thank you! It's brilliant. I shall put it away for a school 'book week'.

2.) I thought up some games on the spot for our friends' Wizard of Oz party this afternoon. I especially liked the 'Oz has got talent' activity.

3.) I redecorated my dresser using paint and wallpaper and am very pleased with the results.

Today I am joining in with Faith and Family's Small Successes. (See sidebar for link).

This week I went to the doctors. I tend to neglect this responsibility for various reasons, except when it comes to the children, of course. So while I was there I achieved 3 things:

1.) I saw the doctor about a long standing back problem that I have been trying to ignore and hoped would get better by itself.

2.) I made an appointment to have a cervical smear test. It's been 5 years since my last one and we are advised to have this done every 3 years.

3.) I made an appointment for Hope to have her MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccination.

I suspect I'm not the only Mummy who neglects herself in this way. I hope I am. It can be very difficult finding the time to do these check-ups for oneself and I seem to always prioritise them last, after everyone else has been looked after. But it won't help anyone if I become too unfit to look after them... so it is done now. Hooray!

Small successes

FaithButton

Today I am joining in with Faith and Family's small successes.

1.) I looked after my Henry this week when he was poorly. We watched some films together including an old, black and white Norman Wisdom film to make us chuckle and caught an afternoon repeat of Jamie Oliver... which seemed to stimulate Henry's appetite back into action. He is now very keen to cook roast lamb with rosemary and garlic for the family. Can't argue with that!

2.) A joint success - I have been teaching Hope baby sign language (she is 13 months old). She has been using it alot this week to ask for a biscuit and let me know that her nappy needs changing. She is very pleased with herself, and I'm proud of her too.

3.) I cleaned Henry's room out today! Fantastic. Lots of stuff to send to the charity shop.

1.) (Quite a big success, actually) I voted in the General Election. I haven't done this for many years. However this time I've made the effort to research the manifestos and while I (like most people, I should imagine) can't find a party that fully represents what I'd like for this country, I did come to a conclusion. Without being specific (!) I decided that while I think Gordon Brown possibly has the best strategy for coping with the recession; to vote for what I believe in the most and that would be marriage and the family unit. Even though, rather pessimistically, I think it is probably too late to bring British society back to the ideal of marriage, I felt that it was right to support it with my vote. I think the Government could save a lot of money spent on benefits and 'initiatives' to improve the welfare and prospects of deprived children if they simply supported married couples who work hard to support their families and inspire their children.

2.) I've managed to organise some bits and pieces for Honor's 'Little House' birthday party at the weekend, including getting a CD called 'The Best of Country Fiddle'.

3.) I've slept quite well!

Small successes

FaithButton

Hi there!
My 3 small successes this week are:
1.) I've finally called it a day on the Kumon classes. While I think both children have benefited from them, it's a relief to all of us to be rid of it, for now anyway. Hubby and I agonised a bit over this decision (well, I did the agonising - he is more than happy not to be spending £140 per month on this!) but we finally agreed to let it go. We are going to have this Bank Holiday weekend completely free of study and just enjoy family stuff.

2.) My next little success would be coming to a decision on what to do for Honor's 9th birthday next week. We were originally going to hire the village hall and have a disco, but our big girl didn't seem all that enthusiastic about it. Then I suddenly thought 'what about a Little House on the Prairie inspired party?' So now I'll be busy planning that. Activities will include things like candle or soap making, some simple cookery and maybe, even, a spelling bee!

3.) Finally, well, I'm just going to go for the flower arrangement I made from the blossom from the garden. I posted the pictures yesterday. Simple, but lovely.

I'm off now to read some other entries on the Faith and Family website as I have just a little time left before baby wakes up.

This is the second time I've taken part in the Small Successes challenge. Is there something about Thursdays that makes thinking of three successes this week so difficult? Perhaps that is why they, at Faith and Family, picked it. Perhaps I'm not the only one who could benefit from a bit of encouragement... what, with a rotten, stinking cold on top of that general getting to the end of the week exhaustion, to try and think of something positive is probably just what the doctor would prescribe. So, here goes:

1.) I helped my daughter understand improper fractions.

2.) I've made some progress with smartening up the kitchen - on very little money.

3.) I looked after Hubby really well when he had man-flu, making him my flu-busting hot'n sour chicken soup.

That wasn't so difficult. And that is because my wonderful Hubby came up with all three, just now, in no time at all. Aren't I lucky!

Today I am taking part in Faith and Family's Small Successes.

My 3 small successes for the week are...

1.) Remembering to keep my seedlings watered.

2.) Using the 'n' word with my big girl, yesterday, and not giving in even though I think it hurt me more than it hurt her!

3.) I'm struggling to think of a third.... erm, ...

No.

I'll ponder on it for a while and maybe come up with something for my next post this evening.

3 hours later....

Ha, ha, ha. I've got one. The kids are in bed. I've had a bath and I'm in my pyjamas and it is only 7pm! That's not even a small success. That's a big one!
